Protect Yourself from Scam Artists

If you've received a phone call or email from the 'IRS' saying you owe them money and could be arrested if you don't pay immediately, you may have been a victim of a scam.
There have been many new scams reported to the IRS in the past few months and it is something that all tax payers should be aware of. 
The IRS posted this article a few weeks ago. It details some of the known scams circulating and also describes what the IRS will not do when it comes to collections and taxes owed.
We recommend you read and bookmark the article for future reference.

"The IRS will never:

• Angrily demand immediate payment over the phone, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill.
• Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
• Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
• Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card.
• Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone."
